10 reviews for Worx WX989L 20V MAKERX 2-Pc Combo Kit – Rotary Tool + Heat Gun w/ 42 Accessories

  1. Amazon Customer

I love how quickly this heats up to be used. It almost instantly heats up to its max temp.I bought this to help remove some old rusted nails, which is certainly assisted with. I love that it is part of the MAKERx product line, so all of my batteries, etc. already work with it.It is light, easy to use, and quick to work. Highly recommend.

  2. Goose

I prefer not being tethered to a wall outlet so this was handy though definitely more expensive than a traditional heatgun. It’s not entirely “wireless” though. It still plugs into the maker x block though I can pop that into my pocket while working with this. It heats up quite quickly which is great too. I recommend it but really only if you need to be untethered and are already using maker x accessories.

  3. Lauren E

I am loving this new heat gun! I don’t have a ton of experience with ‘power tools’ and this is SO easy to use. It heats up with a zero wait time, has a nice shape for the hand-held aspect and I love how easy it is to use with the interchangeable battery. I first used this for the project seen above – hand-lettered wood ornaments with the a scorch pyrography marker (and a cute wood door hanging sign). Super super easy, and I love how they turned out. Excited to use it for embossing & other crafts!

  4. LDP

It really did heat up super fast. Love the little stand that pops out to allow you to use both of your hands for your project. Used it to heat some plastic parts on my kids toys to fix them. Just make sure you have the hub and battery for it to work.

Update (3/20/21): Used the heat-gun and soldering iron to connect a 24/12v converter to a battery bank via a 4-port terminal block.Summary: I have had rotary tools long enough to remember when the first real accessory for a Dremel was the extension shaft. This is similar in that you have relocated the power source away from the part that you hold, resulting in a lightweight tool.Previously reviewed the WX739L Rotary only tool combo (there is video in the link below):https://www.amazon.com/review/R3HSAXMQJGSDVS/ref=pe_1098610_137716200_cm_rv_eml_rv0_rvObservations:1) To test the rotary grinder (Dremel equivalent), I used the included 3/4″ cut-off wheel, and cut a 1″ section off from a 3/32″ thick curtain rod bracket. Additional detail in that review.2) Next I looked at the Angle Grinder. The 2″ disc should be sufficient for most small tasks, and would excel at bolt/round stock cut off. I like that the motor is brushless, as that is then newest technology, which makes for more efficient and cooler running. You can really dial the speed down very slow, which I showed in the video.3) Lastly, I tried the soldering iron. Having soldered things just about my entire life, I was really looking forward to this; however, the temperature seems very low, relative to what the digital read out indicated. It does heat up quickly, and adjusts back down relatively quickly. I need to test this further, so for now I’m rating it fair. One thing to note, you’ll probably need to increase the heat much higher than indicating.Recommendations:1) These systems of tools really makes economical sense when you have many of them. This MakerX combo has the rotary tool, angle grinder, and soldering iron, and they also offer an air brush. I’m sure they intend to release more tools. The 20v Power Share is also compatible with many Worx 20v tools also. The heat gun is the only one sold separately, not as part of any combo. I intend to buy the mini heat gun; the reviews are fair, not great, but I would much rather use a mini heat gun than a lighter to shrink heat wrap.2) For the angle grinder and soldering iron accessories, I used a 2-compartment Sistema container (link below), and added some foam to hold the bits from rattling around; I think it turned out really well. Drops right inside the bag, and all the little bits are there at your fingertips.Pros: Good fit & finish; brushless motor (rotary and angle grinder); 20v Power Share family of tools; includes a tool bag.Cons: A bunch of warning & caution stickers; soldering iron isn’t super hot. Conclusion: At $170 for this set, I rate this 5-stars, and I would recommend this WX991L set over the smaller/lower cost offerings (like the rotary only for $100). Spend a little time to see which kit would be suit your needs and budget.Related Products:WORX WX992L 20V MAKERX 2Pc Combo Kit – Rotary Tool + Air Brush – $130https://www.amazon.com/WORX-WX992L-20V-MAKERX-Combo/dp/B08KFNF8MYWORX WX739L MAKERX Rotary Tool Kit – $95https://www.amazon.com/WORX-WX739L-MAKERX-Rotary-Tool/dp/B08KF1LKMQWORX WX743L.9 20V MAKERX Mini Heat Gun – Hub, Battery and Charger sold separately – $30https://www.amazon.com/WORX-WX743L-9-MAKERX-Mini-Heat/dp/B08KFMJTJVSistema 11.8 Ounce Small Split Storage Container (Colors may vary) – $6https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQGS09A

  7. jose Luis fontes.

Love the product especially when you’re a beginner this product is easy to get your hands on

  8. Richard C. Drew

I’ve been using small torches whenever I needed to use heat-shrink fittings and tubing in the field. This is so much nicer. No change of burning or melting anything!

  9. CraftMaster

Bought this to try out a craft my kids wanted to do that they saw on tik tok. Worked perfectly! Look forward to finding more stuff to melt!!

  10. Truth Machine 5000

I picked up the Worx dermal type tool for light duty. I liked the size. And rechargeable battery.I like to build speaker cables. They require heat shrink. I don’t like juggling lighters, butane torches, a heat gun seemed expensive and bulky and just kind of dangerous.Enter this awesome little device. Perfect. Size and price. It’s an absolute pleasure to work with, mostly because of it’s maneuverability.Another plus, as soon as you turn it off, It’s cool to the touch in seconds. So it can be put away quickly without worry. It does use alot of battery power. I am really considering upgrading the battery. But then you start entering into the cost of a heat gun.If you have a small quick jobs, like heat shrink. It’s a perfect fit. Highly recommended.
