What is the ZipSnip?
It’s a rechargeable battery-powered, lightweight pair of electric scissors for reducing hand strain when cutting through all sorts of materials, from cardboard and plastic to carpet and leather.
Does the ZipSnip come with a battery and a charger?
Yes, but the battery is internal. You just plug in the charger when you need more juice.
How long does it take to charge the battery?
Approximately 5 hours to get a full charge with the included charger.
How long will the ZipSnip run on one charge?
Depends how you use it, and what you’re using it for. Tougher materials will use more battery.
What kind of blades does it use? Can they be sharpened?
It comes with 1 blade and the ZipSnip uses a self-sharpening mechanism so it’s always operating at peak performance. After a while though, every blade gets dull. When that happens we offer replacements in packs of 2.

This cutter works wonderfully on cutting upholstery fabric, quilt batting, and minky/polar fleece! I highly recommend this product! I have been sewing for years, but recently I have gotten arthritis in my hands and I haven’t been able to cut the fabric. I purchased this cutter, and it is a lifesaver for cutting thick fabrics evenly and easily! I couldn’t believe how light this cutter is, especially because it is powerful. Please mark if you find my review helpful. Thank you so much!

Wondering if you’d ever use this product? YES! It’s terrific! I am a seamstress and work from home. The biggest problem with that is where to put all the fabric. We were moving into a new home and I came up with the idea of cutting up the moving boxes we were using to wrap fabric around. That left me faced with “How long could my hands hold up to cutting boxes into the hundreds of perfectly sized pieces I needed?” I looked on Amazon.com for help and found this tool. It cuts through thick moving boxes like butter and it’s easy to cut them to the exact size I need. You charge it up and it lasts for quite a while of work before needed another charge.

These should be free for all Prime members. Now getting rid of cardboard boxes is like cutting sheets of paper. The Prime Pantry boxes only take about a minute to reduce to small pieces. Anyone can easily use the tool. The cutting action is fast, accurate and the guard keeps clothes and fingers from harm. After a zillion boxes being reduced the blade is still sharp as new.Heavy duty box staples, however, could be something that could hurt the blade – but, Amazon doesn’t use fasteners for their boxes.

This is great tool for what it is. Hence the 5 star rating…HOWEVERIf you’re like me, you purchased to cut up all the cardboard shipping boxes you get on a weekly basis because you order everything online and you’re tired of struggling with a box cutter or utility knife the night before placing the bins out for pick up.I was debating saw vs. zipsnip and now wish I had purchased a mini saw.A – Zipsnip cuts really well – but the cut is very thin and the lower blade attaches to the handle with a piece of metal thicker than the cut. No problem for soft materials, but stiff objects like cardboard tend to bind on this attachment. This takes a little extra effort on normal corrugated boxes – but it’s a major hassle for double-thick cardboard (like the kind used to ship heavy objects, large screen TVs, big electronics, etc)B – Because of the lower blade attachment, cutting across edges is not easy. Picture cutting an assembled box in half. A saw would let you cut one side and continue cutting through the edge as you rotate the box to the next side. No need to stop at the edge, pull the zipsnip back out and then cut down the other side. I’ve resorted to breaking down the boxes first so the edges lie flat – but this makes the job longer. Would be so much faster to just saw in any direction. If I had to cut double-thick corrugated cardboard with any frequency, I would absolutely buy a mini saw. I had to cut one up today it was about the same level of effort as using a utility knife…no fun.

I didn’t expect to like this thing so much. We have stacks and stacks of cardboard boxes to get rid of but the trash company is being very specific about how we put things in the various trash cans (landfill, compost, recycling), they don’t like you to just fold-down flat the boxes, they want you to cut them down to bite-sizes. We’re both old folks now and bending has become a major pain in the–back; and we can’t even talk about kneeling or stooping PLEASE! This handy tool slices through all that cardboard so easily. I still have a mess of boxes to work through (what do you do in retirement???) but I’ll get there eventually and we’ll have so much more room. Recharges easily as long as I remember to plug the charger in before going to bed so by morning the little tool is waiting there green lighting it’s ready to go. We have a bedroom with a wrecked carpet from 35 years of cats, plants, human traffic, time, that I’ve been wanting to pull up and get rid of and I think I can now cut the carpet pieces so they can be rolled and tied/taped so each roll can be carried down to the trash so they can be recycled. This tool, for me at least, verges on being a miracle!

I bought this cutting tool to use on fabric. At the present, old towels that I wanted to cut into strips to make a rag rug. I tried brand new fabric scissors that didn’t work well at all. Even if you don’t have any issues with your hands or wrists (which I do) I think you will love this cutting tool. I enjoy doing different crafts and I believe this will be a handy tool to have around.

This is an astonishingly handy little tool. I recently used this to remove an old rug and it turned a 3-hour job into a twenty minute job. Next, I needed to mask windows for painting using that thin plastic sheet that passes for a drop cloth, which is hard to cut with scissors or an exacto knife. Again – two minutes later I had a perfect piece. Tomorrow, I have a ton of cardboard to slice up for recycling. This will make the job go at least twice as fast. I use it to open packages of all kinds too, especially those human-proof hard plastic clamshells…and even the ones with ziplock tops that have no way in. Every home should have one of these.

The media could not be loaded. This cutting tool is great for boxes. Like many others, I wanted a faster and easier way to break down Amazon Prime cardboard boxes. This does the job wonderfully. It’s really best to think of this device as electric scissors. If you look closely at the cutting mechanism, you can see that it’s shearing two blades, each sharpened on only one side, against one another — more like scissors than a circular saw.The advantage is that scissors are self sharpening, don’t tend to produce a lot of dust, and the blade doesn’t need to be spinning at a high RPM — quieter and in some ways safer.Pros:- Easy to use- Two-sided trigger is convenient and safe- Small opening prevents accidents- Fairly quiet- LiPo battery doesn’t discharge while unplugged between uses- Won’t dull quickly due to self-sharpening effect of scissor mechanism.Cons:- The opening to guide cardboard toward the blade sometimes gets caught- It could be a little quieter, faster, and stronger- The handle is a little unnecessarily thick- The charging port is tinyOverall, I’d recommend it!

This thing wasn’t part of Prime Day, but I knew dealing with Prime Day boxes was going to be a *nightmare* so I searched for something electrical to help me with that. First I discovered some pink electric scissors that little old ladies use for quilting, but my husband asked if maybe there was something less… pink. Another search turned up this beefier, manlier version, and we agreed that this was the solution. And you guys. It’s so good. Destroying cardboard boxes is now a hobby of mine, and our massive pile is no more. If you buy everything from Amazon, like I do, this is an indispensable object.
