I once had a full-sized planer, and for most jobs, it was too large. This one is great for cabinets and shelving that don’t close very well, due to overly thick paint, and too-thick shelf lips that prevent ease of closure. And if you are into making balsa-wood airplanes, this planer is ideal.

  2. Luthor

This plane was very sharp and allowed me to trim very hard wood in very thin amounts giving me the accuracy required to fit the pieces together well.

  3. Duane

I weave baskets, and use a plane to help shape the rims. The one I had was a good few years old, and unfortunately the blade was becoming dull, and could not find replacement blades, the person I used to have sharpen in is no longer in business. This plane is easy to adjust and works fantastic. Definitely a keeper and will get more years of use from it.

  4. ArtK

I’ve had one for years and have been surprised how often I use this goofy little tool to take the edge off of wood boards. Simple and effective. Bought one for my grown kids and a friend so they can get hooked on it also.

  5. Ransom Hal Castleberry

This isn’t a tool for doing fine bench work or large pieces but it’s a great help in finishing work on small details. I use it to remove a bead of paint that is a little too thick along an edge or to round an edge of a board off a table or miter saw. It’s easy to keep in a pouch and pull out when needed but cheap enough that you don’t feel bad using it in ways you wouldn’t use a Lie Nielsen. It worked fine out of the box and better after a bit of tuning.

It looks like a tool for cartoon mice , but it worked to trim a wooden window frame . Surprisingly effective

Comes sharp and ready to go. Once you learn to hold it and use it it’s a tiny workhorse.

  8. Chad williams

As a trim Carpenter and someone who loves working with wood this little is something everyone should have I use it as often as I do my saw. It’s incredibly handy, quick, and sharp, every carpenter should have one

  9. Chris Jung

I have a 1 1/8″ round dowel that I was trying to fit into a slightly-smaller tube. Since a 1″ dowel was too loose, I got this small hand planer to shave off just enough wood from the larger dowel so that it would fit. Worked great!
