If your door is not already prepared for a mortise lock, you (or a skilled professional) will have to use a mortise saw to cut into the door so the lock fits properly. Our mortise locks fit 2-1/4 inches Backset and include a skeleton key locking mechanism. |

How to Measure for Backset?
“When installing a tubular latch with passage or privacy function, it’s very important that you know what your backset measurement is – either 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches. (see graphic).
The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to center of the 2-1/8 inches (54 millimeter) diameter bore hole.
In the U.S., there are two common backsets for residential door locks, 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches.
Dummy sets have no latch and are surface mounted, therefore a backset measurement is not needed.
Nostalgic Warehouse Interior Mortise locks are only offered in 2-1/4 inches backset. Our mortise locks are recommended for interior use only.

Love these knobs, they look very high end and patina beautifully!

After several failed purchases of other cheaper knobs, we decided to purchase these more expensive recreations that mirror our houses original hardware from the 1890’s. We installed them as dummy knobs on our closet doors. The knobs arrived on time and packaged well. While there are ample guides included to aid you in a clean installation, I ignored them in order to install these knobs at the same height as our other original doors (which is not of standard height). I’m very pleased with the ease of installation and of the quality of the product.

We are installing antique solid oak doors to use in our garage apartment and wanted to have door knobs that matched the hinges. These are just what we were looking for and are very sturdy for using to opening a sliding barn door.
