Interior MortiseA mortise lock is a lock that requires a pocket – the mortise – to be cut into the door. The lock is installed into the pocket in the edge of the door. If your door is not already prepared for a mortise lock, you (or a skilled professional) will have to use a mortise saw to cut into the door so the lock fits properly. How to Measure for Backset?
When installing a tubular latch with passage or privacy function, it’s very important that you know what your backset measurement is – either 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches. (see graphic).
The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to center of the 2-1/8 inches (54 millimeter) diameter bore hole.
In the U.S., there are two common backsets for residential door locks, 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches.
Dummy sets have no latch and are surface mounted, therefore a backset measurement is not needed.
Nostalgic Warehouse Interior Mortise locks are only offered in 2-1/4 inches backset. Our mortise locks are recommended for interior use only.

I bought 2 of these for two different doors. Nostalgic Warehouse has some really well made stuff. Made in India.Functions really nicely and absolutely what I wanted.Got it for a steal. You can find the deals if you keep looking here on Amazon. They had 2 and I bought them both. Try not to pay full price if you don’t have to. BTW, Home Depot I believe, also sells this brand.
