9 reviews for Makita XRJ05T 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Recipro Saw Kit (5.0Ah)

  1. Traveler

The saw is very nice. It is easy to change blades. It’s heavy. I thought brushless tools didn’t overheat as much as non-brushless tools, but this saw gets HOT after a few minutes. It gets even hotter than my ancient, non-brushless DeWalt reciprocating saw. It’s kind of a battery hog. But it’s a quality tool, and I like it. Only time will tell if it holds up to heavy use.Update: 11/26/2020. After completing several heavy-duty jobs (cutting up hardwood limbs and stumps) this saw has held up well. I would buy it again.

  2. Concrete907

I’ve been a concrete contractor since 2004. Some years before starting my own business I bought a set of cordless tools- Ryobi, because they were the cheapest. And they served me well. Especially when they came out with their 4Ah lithium batteries, I thought “This is great! These last forever!”But their circular saw was WORTHLESS! That’s what drove me to upgrade my cordless set in 2020. But which brand to switch to?…Makita wasn’t even on my list. But all the legit reviews (actual “hands-on” by pros) had Makita 18V LXT in first or second for virtually every kind of tool. And they regularly have great sales, shrinking the price gap. Get the 7-1/4” circular saw kit when it’s on sale for $249 and comes with the (2) bonus 5Ah batteries (for a total of 4). That kick-starts your kit with great batteries and a 2-battery charger.Decision made! And the LXT’s are awesome! I didn’t realize what a difference a premium tool could make. What does all this have to do with the XRJ05 recip saw? This- there used to be two recip saws on my truck, the Ryobi cordless for all the little stuff, and a Milwaukee corded Sawzall for anything substantial, anything that actually needed power and speed. Now there’s only one.

  3. Tigglebitties

BUY IT. soft start is something you dont think you need until you have it. Saves the blades from getting tweaked when you first start. Once you get a feel for the brushless motor power control youll feel it ramp up when the cutting bears down and itll tear right through anything you throw at it. A good carbide metal bit on this beast with one 5ah battery will get you most the way through a work day. This thing will tear through any wood and now surpasses the corded models in metal. If you need a tool for the trade, suck it up and buy four 5AH batteries and a dual charger you’ll run circles around the guys tripping over their extension cords.

  4. Willem R. Vandenberge

Like all Makita LXT tools, this tool is exactly as advertised. It performs out of the box, has all the features you’d expect, but nothing more. Is easy to operated and just works. After trying (and ultimately giving away) many different brand of cordless tools, I have settled on the Makita LXT line for years. The batteries consistently outperform and outlast any other brand, and the selection of tools that use this battery format is just enormous.

  5. Shane

This is my third reciprocating saw from Makita. By far the best too. The little miniature one they have is terrible for metal, this thing flies through it. It took me a while to get this, with it being the most expensive one, I should’ve just got it first and been done with it though.

  6. S. Michael

I have an old (excellent) Porter cable that i used for years. I tried my friends version of this Sawzall and was hooked. i Already have a bunch of Makita 18V tools so this “brushless” model” was a no-brainer choice- 2 speeds yes you need it… for soft and tough materials also a middle “safe” position to protect your hands when changing blades or when not in use- Rafter Hanger, very convienent- soft start, until you have it, you don’t realize how nice it is. It really makes starting a cut in material a dream- perfect balance- snap-in blade changes… It’s so easy to insert a blade it actually took me a minute to figure it out. You just push the blade in and it snaps into place.- easy to adjust and to remove for cleaning shoe- LED light, again until you have it, you don’t realize how nice it is.

  7. BeK

This has replaced my cordless reciprocating saws. Cannot recall last time I plugged one of them in. There is no need. This XRJ05 is powerful, good control, has better features and is comfortable to use. Battery life has not been an issue with 5Ah batteries and for me this is a tool, like my grinders, where dealing with the cord can be a real liability due to the situations where it is put into use. No regrets.

  8. Danzigg650

I use this saw constantly, I do plumbing and heating, this saw will do what you want it to, the biggest gas pipes, metal framing, whatever. with ease. I have a previous makita cordless sawzall, and I cant even use it now that i have this. everyone comments how powerful it is, i even bought a cast iron blade and cut through like 5 pieces of 4 inch black pipe on one battery charge the first week i had it. aside from it being lighter than the previous brushed model and really powerful for a cordless sawzall, Ive done things to it I probably shouldnt have, eveytime I use it and drop it on the ground i remember this is a very expensive and high quality tool, but thats why I can use it and drop it on the ground again… I cant break makita tools. it has 2 settings too, i use the slower setting for metal and faster for wood. Great saw

  9. Ryan

Cuts like a demented dingo! Solid Makita construction. Low, high speed selector with precise speed control trigger. Easy tool-less blade changes! If you are on the Makita platform and looking for a recip-saw then click purchase!
