The Klein Tools ET920 is a USB digital meter for Type-A and Type-C ports. It accurately and reliably measures and displays the USB port voltage, current, capacity, energy, and resistance simultaneously. It can function with any USB-A and most USB-C ports, including Qualcomm Quick Charge ports that have the ability to deliver power.

    Perfect for testing USB plugs. I got it to test a small solar panel to ensure the best placement and ended up using it on about every block I had. Plus it’s a Klein, there maybe cheaper options out there but there isn’t better quality than this one. This one is sure to last years

    I admit that I bought it to see what it does. In particular I can now watch the power consumption of items such as a changing laptop, a desktop powered by USB or a Raspberry Pi 4. I can figure out if I am overloading a configuration. There are going to be a lot more USB powered systems in the future.

    It is a little more expensive than the generic Chinese readers, but this one can test type C (including laptop chargers) and is extremely well built. Would definitely recommend it to anyone that needs to test chargers/cables/devices either professionally or not. I do wish it would let you monitor the USB C and USB A connections simultaneously, though given how silly and potentially dangerous of a use case that would be I can’t fault them for not allowing it to do so.

    This Klein Tools ET920 USB Power Meter with USB-A and USB-C connectors is really handy to have. It has many test information and easily displays it’s information on the easy-to read LCD display. Feels like it will hold up well also. Highly recommended.

    Fantastic tool that measures both voltage and current for USB-A and USB-C chargers. Really easy to take measurements and the device is very small so doesn’t take much room in your tool kit.

    I’ve been using this device to diagnose whether a MacBook (for example) does, or doesn’t pull power properly. It’s awesome, pocketable, easy to read, and orange (meaning I personally am unlikely to lose sight of it). It worked so well I bought another one for my coworker.His stopped working almost immediately however. He threw it out before I could contact the company about the issue. Mine is still working perfectly over a year later.

    I mostly use this to position my portable USB solar charger. It works great and it updates it’s readings fast. It feels accurate but I do not have an alternate meter to verify it’s accuracy. Additionally it’s been very useful to determine the quality of USB cables. Some have much less resistance than others, the low resistance cables work not surprisingly much better. I’ve taken this meter camping and it’s been misted/rained on, it’s been kicking around in my backpack, and in my toolbox at work without any extra protection, I’ve left it in the car during the summer when it’s hot. This meter has lived through all that and still works. It’s tough like you would expect from a Klein tool.If I had to complain I would do about the built in cords. They usually feel just a bit short, and they are always upside down for me, I have to twist the cords and hold the meter with one hand to see the display. I wish I could detach the cords, and or replace them easily.

    It’s easy to use, reliable, easy to read, great quality. The only downside is the price. It’s more than twice of the cheaper tester, but you get what you paid for. I bought the usb c + usb a version. both seems to works fine. it shows voltage, current, total maH (so you can measure capacity of power banks), and total time. It also got 10 memories. On the normal screen press 3 seconds to record to memory, on the memory screen long press 5 seconds to clear all memory, single click to cycle through the screens.

    Had problems with USB ports not providing proper power to my raspberry pi3 and Oculus Rift S . This was perfect to tell me that my USB ports had too low amperage to support my devices. I went and bought the baker powered hub(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VDVCQ84/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_btf_t1_jULrFb2H0AJ7T) and verified amperage with meter. I am now getting the proper amperage I require now and my devices are running perfect. Also love that I can use my devices while this meter is connected to verify.

    I mainly bought this for testing USB-C power supplies at work and didn’t realize the pigtails were on the input side so I also had to buy a pack of USB C Female to Female Adapters (only needed one, but for ~$8 it came with 2). So far it works great.I know there are many cheaper usb mutlimeters on here, but I’ve had a lot of luck with klein tools in the past and I wanted something I could trust to be accurate and not die on me in a month.
