Ingersol 307B Straight Air Die Grinder is much more compact than I expected. It’s physical size is as small or smaller than my Dremmel tool. I purchased this unit to port match an aluminum intake manifold to a set of cylinder heads and find this tool the perfect choice (very small, light and 28K RPM speed). Unit comes with two collets with the larger accepting 1/4″ standard diameter tool shafts and another (provided loose in baggie) is marked 6mm. Two flat wrenches are provided for tightening bits in the collets. You will need to install an air fitting (purchased separately) to match your air hose fitting. This tool appears to be a made very high quality and with normal care, should last a lifetime. Having quality tools helps me do the best job possible.

I like everything about this grinder. The size makes it easy to use & store. It was also priced right too.

Bought this together with some green Type R zirconia sanding discs so I could sharpen the blade on my gas hedge pruner. I’m not a big air compressor/impact tool guy – all I have is a little 6-gal pancake compressor – but I was able to sharpen my pruner and some other garden tools with this setup as long as I paused every once in awhile to let the compressor catch up.

update January 2020. I still regularly use this die grinder and it works great. I did end up filing down the backside of the safety so that I can semi engage the trigger without having to flip the lever. This is still a good tool, all I do is drip a few drops of oil in it every once in a while. I still have difficulty removing bits but that is not a dealbreaker for me.Original review April 2017. This is very small and works well. I did have a few issues with it. The safety on the handle makes it very awkward to use. Also I have had trouble removing bits from this tool. I usually have to get a pair of pliers to pull out the bit, I don’t think it should be grabbing quite that tight. Now that I am thinking about it the two wrench system to change bits is a little frustrating as well. I don’t know if another manufacturer has solve that issue, but there is definitely room for improvement.

Ingersoll rand is an amazing brand. High quality and they offer warranty. We are a distributor bought on amazon because were out of stock at Factory. Just wanted our customer to be happy. FYI if you buy on amazon we will not warranty it. Buy from an actual distributor

  6. HandyDan

I am impressed with this tool. I use it to debur surfaces and clean them for welding. The collet tightens and doesn’t let the shaft of your mandrel slip. The tool is lightweight and powerful. There is a reason that it is highly recommended among professional tool users.

  7. HandyDan

I am impressed with this tool. I use it to debur surfaces and clean them for welding. This is the perfect size for getting inside 3″ tubing. The collet tightens and doesn’t let the shaft of your mandrel slip. The tool is lightweight and powerful.

This gets a ton of use and it has held up just fine. Keep it lubricated and it will not let you down. I was replacing other cheaper quality grinders evey year , decided to purchase an Ingersoll brand and have not had any issues.

Short version: I bought two of these in Feb 2018 for use at my business. They’re still going strong and work great.Long version: The HF cheapie die grinders are fine for the guy at home using them once in a blue moon, but they don’t hold up at all for regular use. I wanted to get something better than the HF junk but was not willing to spend hundreds for a true “industrial” model. These have fit the bill perfectly. Both units are primarily used with roloc pads doing general metalwork. One has a 3″ roloc and is primarily rough sanding. The other has a 2″ roloc with some sanding but is primarily used for deburring and polishing with scotchbrite pads. For how we use them power is never an issue but speed modulation is very important. These have been great for that. Interestingly, the more expensive IR models I considered have multiple reviews complaining about a lack of speed control, but I’ve had no complaints with this model. The front exhaust has been a plus for our use. But, I do not have auto-oilers on our shop lines. We just manually add a few drops once in a while (probably far less frequently than we should). They are not used all day every day like a production fab shop, but they definitely see daily use. Honestly though, if you’re using a tool for multiple hours every day you should be buying WAY more expensive industrial level air tools. As others have mentioned, the collets do have a tendency to stick. This hasn’t really been an issue for us. We’re not changing things that often and when we do they break loose with a tap after loosening the nut sufficiently. In summary, at this price point I can’t imagine a better bang for the buck. They’re good quality yet still very affordable. Speed modulation is great. They are compact and light weight. They have a study, solid feel to them, not loose and sloppy like the HF tools. I will definitely buy these again if we need more.

When I first started working in a garage, I was told by many of the master technicians to pay up for this specific brand and model. They all have one and many were a few years and still acted like they were brand new. This is my second IR 301B purchase (this is a gift to my father). This grinder is tough, very durable and is extremely easy to use. I love this one because of the angle. I will not buy another grinder. You won’t find anything better for such an amazing price. Matco is pretty comparable but more, and don’t get me started on Snap-On.This is the best die grinder I have used and it’s such a great deal.
