10 reviews for Hunter Sentinel Indoor Ceiling Fan with LED Light and Remote Control, 52″, Brushed Nickel

Great fan. My old (brass colored) hunter fan did not have a light kit on it. Now I have a light. The remote had a light switch attachment bracket so I can turn on and off just like if it was hard wired. Has a neat feature that you click and the light gives you a delay so you can see until you get to the next room (when shutting off). Brushed nickle just looks crisp and modern. Our local box store was out of this particular model, so ordered from amazon and had it two days later. Same price. I’ve had 3-4 hunter fans over the years, they are my go-to brand.

I’ve owned Hunter fans for over 30yrs and had them on remotes for nearly as long! The installation is straight forward and the remote install is has its been for nearly 20yrs now (at least.) The receiver slides/hides within the gap above the pivot ball and the top of the ceiling bracket. It’s a bit bigger than a deck of cards. The fan is much smaller, in motor size, than the unit I replaced. It’s just as powerful and equally quiet. After install the remote performed well, although it’s basic compared to the older standalone Hunter remote systems I have. The light IS DIMABLE, if you turn the light on and hold the button the light will dim down and cycle back up again, simply release the button at the desired level. Over all it’s equal to past hunters I’ve had it did require balancing (simple, even comes with good instructions) I bought 3 of these to replace in a common area that had mismatch fans.

After placing this order, I wondered if I should have gone with a 5-blade fan but, after research, evidence shows there is more stress on a 5 blade and more likely to be off-balance. Our contractor agreed. Replacing our old fan took him 20 minutes. It truly runs like a smoothly engineered piece if work. The blades have option to flip from a weathered grey to a solid, darker grey. The beachy, weathered grey goes well in our .surroundings. And the brushed nickel has a clean, modern look. The light is not something we will routinely use but is nice to have. The cover allows light without seeing the bulbs. It’s nice not having pull chains hanging down. The remote is simple, functional and can be mounted on the wall. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase. Initially purchased a fan/light from a local specialty fan/light store for twice the cost but returned it for this one.

I bought this fan for my living room and have been fairly impressed with its quality functionality and style. I have had some small issues. For the first month but I had it installed the light would randomly dim and then come back up about every 15 minutes. Since then I have not had that issue I’m not sure if it was a controller issue or receiver issue or my light bulbs. The second issue I have is the remote is ugly! It’s brown and doesn’t match anything on the fan I really wish they would have made this remote black. Third issue is the glass cover for the lights, due to the color of the glass it changes the color of any light that you put in there. I would say the best description is that it just dulls the light. I’m a fan of the 4K lights (daylight) and it seems to bring that value down. Now the good stuff is it’s extremely quiet, you can program universal remotes with it or wall-mounted controls, one of the few fans that has a grayish blade, very modern not without being over the top, right out of the box the fan seem to be balanced well, construction seems to be top notch, you can program more than one remote, blades are reversible. Overall I would give this fan a 9 out of 10. And as a side note my biggest gripe is just the price point I feel like this fan should be in the $140 to $150.

This was the perfect purchase. Modern look! The fan is very quiet even on the highest level – anyone who says it’s loud must have not installed it properly. I will say it took us some time to install, but we eventually got it all set up (and we are not handy people). The biggest reason I’m writing this review is because of the light – there are mixed reviews on it being poor lighting. We’ve had the fan for a year and thought it gave off poor lighting and for whatever reason no other bulbs worked! Welllllll that’s because it’s a dimmable light! But when you push the light button originally it’s on the softest setting. Hold the light button down and it will give off a ton of light and you should not need any additional lamps or lighting! It’s a fantastic product.

I purchased this fan after reading the reviews and hoped that I could install it without the remote. It was a success. The fan looks nice, and it comes with 800 lumen bulbs.I purchased “Great Eagle 100W Equivalent LED Light Bulb 1550 Lumens A19 Soft White 3000K Dimmable 14-Watt UL Listed (6-Pack)” bulbs which are still allowable by the fan.I also got “Lutron Maestro LED+ Fan Control and Dimmer for LEDs, Halogen and Incandescent Bulbs | Single-Pole | MACL-LFQ-WH | White” to control the fan from the wall. It looks very professional and so far working great. Most importantly, I no longer have to find the remote with four kids toting it around the house. It is at the wall and in the room 100% of the time now. When installing, just omit the use of the receiver and connect the wires from the ceiling directly to the CORRECT wires in the fan.

When we purchased our house 16 years ago we bought and installed a Hunter fan with a light in our bedroom. This was a great fan that was quiet and worked really well for us for 16 years until last week when I went to turn on the fan and the pull chain snapped off. We discovered the entire fan would need to be taken apart to fix a 15 cent chain. We decided to upgrade to a more modern style Hunter fan with a remote. I was a little nervous about the installation, but this fan went up in less than 20 minutes. There was one washer and bolt that attach the fan to the electrical box missing from the box, but we just used the hardware from the old Hunter fan. If we were putting up a brand new fan, this would have been more of a problem. We also noticed that Hunter really does assume that homeowners have a lot of tools laying around. We have been homeowners for many years, so our tool collection is fairly extensive, but a new homeowner might find themselves without a necessary tool. The fan is very modern and updated our bedroom nicely. Like our previous Hunter fan it is super quiet and gives us a very nice breeze. We used the bulbs that came in the box and the light is plenty bright. We love having the remote control and I will be ordering an additional remote from Hunter.

Very well made! Quality product!Pros:Quiet, moves air good, modern look, low profile, bicolor blades (dark grayish brown OR whitewashed grey), reversible spin. The finish is not light metal like brushed nickel. Its matt medium/dark grey, which was perfect for our livingroom.Cons:Harder than average installation but doable if you’re handy and have the right tools. The instructions are very precise. It came with a shorter rod but it’s useless. Save yourself time and effort and install the standard rod. It will still be a low profile fan.Longer rod is not included.

Hunter has it all. I’ve installed close to a dozen fans throughout my life and of all the different brands I’ve tried, I have to say Hunter is the best. I have never had any issues with installation, they feel and work like a quality product and look great. We bought the Sentinel Fan in brushed slate and love the way it looks. We wanted something different than the typical brushed nickel and oil rubbed bronze and this was a perfect match to our grey walls and bedding. I did need an extended down rod which shows it is included in the product description, however, it is not. Maybe they meant the 2” one that comes with it? Anyhow, when I went to order the 18” extended rod, it came up as discontinued. I did panic for a second but read some customer questions pertaining to this fan on the Hunter website and saw that Matte Silver was the replacement for brushed slate. It is and it looks great. I did take one star away from the remote section only because I did buy a Honeywell fan that has more bells and whistles in terms of remote capability. Other than that it does what it needs to. Overall, I’m a happy Hunter owner!

  10. Don Lohrey

Recently purchased and had installed the 52″ brushed nickel Hunter fan and light. I also purchased the extension rod as it was to be mounted in the kitvchen on a slanted ceiling. The brushed nickel looks great with the stainless steel appliances. The fan blades comes with one side brown and the other side grey. Again the grey is a nice accent in the kitchen. The fan has three speeds and all speeds perform well. Now to the light. The light and fan operate off of a remote control. The light is dimable, with two 9 watt LED bulbs (60 watt equivalent). The light it gives off is adequat at the highest level. If you remove the light cover, you will see a label that states that the fixture will accomadate up to two 14 watt LED bulbs. I purchased two 12.2 watt Philips LED (75 watt equivalent) bulbs and installed them. The results were much more to my liking. Now to the problem. After the electrician had installed the light, I found that every 5 to 15 minutes the light would shut off and come back on, all in a split second. Pretty annoying. I contacted Hunter customer service through email ( the phone wait goes on for ever – they answered my email in about 5 hours). They told me to deactivate the remote and then to activate it. The process for both is the same. First turn the light off using your remote, for 5 seconds, and then turn it back on. Then press and hold the fan button, while still holding the fan button, quickly press the light button 2 times. The dimming feature is now deactivated. You then follow the same process to reactivate the remote. The intermittent off and on of the light should now be fixed. I could not believe it, but it worked for me. I now have a beautiful fan with a light with a dimmable feature, that looks great in the kitchen. Hope to alleviate cooking woes on those uncomfortable summer days.
