10 reviews for DEWALT 20V Max Cordless Drill / Driver Kit, Compact, 1/2-Inch (DCD771C2)

  1. John P

This is my first Dewalt tool. I always used to buy budget tools until, after many lessons learned the hard way, I realized that’s a false economy.I am very impressed with this Dewalt, as a good general-purpose drill. It feels solid and has both good torque and good speed, between the two settings. The drill came with a carrying case, charger and two batteries. I like this minimalism, because with those bundles you can buy you are often paying things you don’t really need, like flashlights, worksite boomboxes and so on. The minimalism of this Dewalt kit helps keep the price to a reasonable level.I’ve now done several jobs with this drill, and have no complaints. Remember, you get what you pay for, so I definitely recommend this drill kit!

I need ed to replace my original DEWALT drill since I lost both batteries for that drill. I searched on line for replacement batteries for that drill, and found they were very expensive. I saw this drill in a package that included two batteries and charger for slightly more than the replacement batteries. The new drill performs as well, or better than the old one. It also can use the bigger 5.0 DEWALT batteries that I use in my leaf blower, grass trimmer, and hedge trimmer. It was one of my best buys to add too my DEWALT collection of battery operated tools.

A great drill with 2 batteries. Lithium Ions are the best and longest lasting. Only problem was one battery was defective when received. Would only momentarily allow the light to come on, but no power for drill at all. Tried to charge, but it showed full charge and wouldn’t take one. Instead of sending the entire kit back I called Dewalt and they promptly shipped me a free replacement battery.I gave this unit 5 stars because it is well built, powerful and has great longevity. Dewalt warranties these batteries for 2 full years. Yeah, I had a defective battery, but stuff happens in production and you get a dud now and then. When a company promptly rectifies a problem like Dewalt did here, I have to give them the full 5! I’ve never had a Dewalt product I didn’t like!

I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the batteries. I thought I had problems with my batteries as well and almost returned the drill until I realize I was not snapping the battery into the charger fully. Once I did that the batteries charged up as expected and provided days of power for me. Make sure you are completely inserting your battery into the charger. It should click into place.

  5. MrDerp

High quality drill kit here. It feels nice in the hand. Good balance. Bag is perfect size and not cheap looking which is a plus. Two batteries is convenient. More than enough power for home or garage projects. For price of $100 you do really get your monies worth. 90 day money back guarantee and a limited 3 year warranty is appreciated. Worth buying. I can totally recommend this drill at this price.

I recently got into woodworking in my spare time. I have always been a fan of corded tools because I usually work in my shop with access to electricity and I absolutely HATE when batteries give out on me and I have to wait on a charge. Several months ago I had to build a barn and attach roughly 50 3ft wide, 15 ft long tin panels and had to purchase a battery powered drill for the job. Let me tell you, I will never go back to corded tools after the way this tool performed. The drill comes with 2 batteries, which I fully charged before my project. Hundreds and hundreds of screws later, I had the entire roof on and I was maybe halfway through the second battery! I have now owned this drill for over 6 months and use it weekly. It is still performing like it did when it was brand new!I know Dewalt is a little more expensive than other brands but I could not recommend this drill higher. The price ranges from $99-$129 and it is worth every penny.Perks:1) The LED light is super bright for dark work spaces,2) The 2 batteries last an incredibly long time and charge very quickly3) The 20V power is more than enough power for the weekend warrior/intermediate craftsmanIf you do tons of research on products like I do before I buy, this is a 100% safe bet. You won’t be disappointed!

  7. Bert S.

Absolutely love it. Long lasting batteries and charges quickly. Never had to wait for a charged battery to complete a project. It’s been out thru some rigorous tests too.Great product. Worth every pennyI’ve just been reading some of the reviewsI’ve had mine only a few weeks but I guess I got lucky. I have 2 great batteries I can depend on as I too HATE cordless tools. They almost always die out before the task is complete and usually right before you’re done. ANY I’ve been using this drill almost daily between building a deck and using it as a “pole drill” used it with a bulb planter to dig and loosen up what’s gotta be the worse soil I’ve ever seen full of rock and tile to install a pond but I’ve only charged both batteries 1 and I’m talking “put it to the test” this thing kicks ass. Yes only disappointment is no bit holder like all my old dewaltsAnd a little concern of seeing the sparks at the back of the motor housing where the brushes at. I know it’s 20v dc and maybe it’s normal. I just worry about anyone using it in a room with a possible gas issue…. 💥 boomIs this normal????

  8. SyniBella

I have been using an old OLD drill with a locking key and cord for decades. It finally died so I got this bad boy. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO GET A CORDLESS DRILL!! Curse you Black and Decker for making a drill that lasted as long as it did. I was deprived of this freedom! The torque is AMAZING. It’s heavy-ish(?) I have problems with my hands so it’s a bit top heavy for me however once you put the battery pack in it balances out better. The battery doesn’t add much weight to the over all feel of the drill. OH AND THE LIGHT!! Lemme tell ya I had resorted to using a flashlight and tape. Ya I’m THAT person. If you’re on the fence about getting this, HOP OFF, this is your to buy it. Seriously, you won’t regret it. Unless you do then, I didn’t say anything.

This drill is a beast. DEWALT products have never let me down, and so far this drill is no exception. First of all, it’s an amazing deal. At nearly $90 for one replacement battery, even just the two 1.5mah batteries that this unit comes with should be more expensive than the whole kit. Instead for just over $100 you get two batteries, a fast charger, a soft case and the of course the drill. Frankly if I had other DEWALT 20V tools, I’d buy this kit just for the batteries. This drill is a no-nonsense drill. There are very few bells and whistles, just a workhorse powerful drill with great batteries. It’s extremely small and lightweight, probably half of the weight I’m used to holding with normal NiCad battery drills. However after getting used to the lighter weight of the battery, it feels balanced and stable, with a good fit for my larger hands. But it has at least the same amount of punch of a bigger heavier drill, lasting longer with no fade. I love that this drill performs at 100% and dies quickly – the performance is strong until the end. And with the fast charger, by the time battery A is dead, battery B is fully charged and ready to go. The batteries also seem to hold their charge for indefinite periods of time. One feature I like is the light (the one bell and/or whistle this drill has). I’ve had other drills with lights – that’s nothing new. However, in a few different models, the light would only operate when the trigger was being pulled. If I’m lining up a bit or a screw in a circumstance that requires light, it’s not easy to do if the drill is spinning. This light stays on for ~10 seconds after the trigger is released, allowing you to tap the trigger to engage the light, line up the bit or screw, and resume drilling/driving.The build quality is great. The drill feels solid and strong. My only complaint is the plastic chuck. While I’ve had no trouble getting up to 1/2″ bits into the chuck firmly, it feels cheap – much cheaper than the black metal DEWALT chuck I’m used to. But I guess with this product they had to cut corners somewhere, and if I can still firmly grip a bit, I don’t care what the chuck is made out of.Note: DEWALT seems to be measuring their drills in Unit Watts Out, rather than in/lbs. While this makes sense, as UWO supposedly takes into account both speed and torque, it’s confusing. According to this article on ProToolReviews (, in/lbs can be approximately calculated with the following formula:Speed (RPM) x Torque (inch pounds) / 560 = Max Watts Out (estimated). Note that you must use the lower speed to get the higher torque reading. At 300 UWO, that puts this drill at about 373in/lbs in the low speed setting – not the best, but not bad. Certainly there are more powerful drills, but this one is certainly competitive, and with a name like DEWALT, I felt it was the best bang for my buck. I have yet to be proven wrong.

As I am not a handy person (usually), I had not had a drill for most of my adult life. After doing tons of research, asking friends, asking contractors, I was always brought back to Dewalt. I chose this because my friend (who does flooring) suggested I do not spend over $100 on my 1st drill – especially if I don’t plan on doing heavy work. I didn’t – but I did have the ambitious plan to build an outdoor bench. This came in just under $100 so I figured why not?The battery life isn’t great but it comes with 2 batteries. One battery is enough for me to hang up a couple of paintings and knick knacks. I have not yet tried to use it to build the bench – which I will this summer when the weather is nicer. As a woman, I didn’t feel like getting all pink power tools was necessary but was also concerned about how easy it was to handle a normal drill. It is powerful but very easy to use. A quick tutorial on youtube was enough to get me started. On a side note, my dad was totally jealous of this drill when he saw it 🙂 I plan to get him one for father’s day.
