I got this for extended backcountry trips, and 18” is about the right length. Head is easily sharpened with a diamond hone or puck. Doesn’t come fully sanded or finished, so you’ll have to do that, but that’s standard with axes. Get a belt loop holder for it if you want to carry it off-pack to free up your hands.

I have been looking for a large hatchet/pack ax for a while and ended up with this one. It works great, it is small enough to fit in my pack and heavy enough to get splitting/trimming/cutting work done. I especially like the hardened poll for pounding tent stakes and the cutout that allows choking up on the blade for carving. The striker on the spine is nice as well.

If this was made in China or anywhere other than the US I wouldn’t had bought it. That said, the handle is very nice and the head is perfect weight and size. Will update once we go camping.

I purchased the 19″ and am very happy. I have chopped down several small trees while clearing trails with scouts. It will sharpen nicely and have used it for feather sticks. Worth every penny.

Love this axe! Comes very sharp and a perfect weight and size. I would recommend this axe to anyone looking for a life time tool.

This is an axe you will buy once and take care of for the rest of your life. There were a few criteria that I was looking for…1) It had to be light enough to strap to a hikers backpack on every trip2) I had to feel like, ‘I only need this cutting tool and nothing else’ to process firewood3) Maybe I would compliment this axe with one 4″-5″ knife to handle smaller jobsOn a couple of test runs, this axe outdid my expectations1) It wasn’t bulky like 24″ handle would have been like2) I felt confident taking only this axe and ‘maybe’ a saw out into the middle of nowhere3) Not only could I shave some tinder curls with this axe but I was able to most of the other work with a knifeSo while you might not keep this axe as a one stop shop next to a home or cabin, it is definitely a great piece to keep as a one stop shop to process firewood in the middle of the wilderness.

I’ve had this axe about a week and have been using it daily just testing it and getting a feel for it. It came sharp and perfect. From the grain in the handle to the mask it is perfection. I was on the fence about getting the 19 inch but glad I did. I’m 5’10 175 and it is very manageable with 1 hand but not bad for 2 hands if needed.

Bought this axe at the start of last year. It traveled with me and son on 4 mountain hikes that lasted days. My son fell in love with tool so much he insisted on carrying it on his pack. I wrapped the handle and made a neck leather cover to protect it. Use it all the time at the cabin and it is always with me in the back of my truck. Love the fact it is made in America! Great tool from great people and company. Thank you!

ive chopped and processed quit a lot of wood logs in the last few days more than 5inch wide it comes pretty sharp to start i have yet to put a razor sharp edge on it but should work nicely once I do so handle grain in handle looks rock solid from the box.

Likes:1. packaged with care, axe blade with disposable rubber guard and wrapped in plastic to protect the whole head in shipping (leather axe guard wrapped separately too, very wise), also all the contents were double boxed for added caution (as well as including amazon packaging)2. Loved the flat scandi grind for ease of sharpening and it’ll make wood carving a breeze3. The wood handle came bare without any finish so that I could choose my own method of conditioning (raw linseed is my preferred method)4. Grain orientation is very much to satisfaction being in line with the blade to minimize the chance of breakage
