Updated 9/8/2020 – i let this sit for three months until today. we have a surprise record early snow storm and expect to lose power at some point in the next day. so know was the time to pull them out to be prepared for what is likely to come. i purchased this and another, different type just to power my router and modem set ups. as said after charging it last time to 100% i expected it to discharge a little bit but it didn’t at all, still reads out 100%. of my four battery units i only have one other that stores power so well over time. also before putting it away earlier this summer i experienced zero problems, zero defects. it has performed better than expected so far.TIP – i have four backup batteries in total. all different capacities and from different manufacturers. the one thing they all share in common is that none of the power supplies are marked? they all fit each other but with different electrical input rates you don’t want to mix and match ever. to get around that confusion i just wrote on a sticky note which was for which and then taped the ‘labels’ to the power supplies. thankfully now no more guessing. i hope that helps someone no matter what brand of back up battery they go with.first we have a backup gas generator for our house but it is very large and not something i’d use unless food in the freezers started to thaw out. so for short outages it would be nice especially now to be able to access internet throughout our household. be it for normal wifi use or just to use alexa enabled devices. problem is both the router and modem have to be plugged in to a standard wall outlet to function. that is why i went looking for this in the first place.price for what you get is very good compared to others sold here. i was happy with what arrived in the mail. it came well packaged, protected without any defects whatsoever. it comes with about any adapter you could think of from car, usb, usb c, dc in/out, etc. so you can power all your things without buying anything more. to charge it either use the power brick or your car’s power outlet. or the third option the ability to be charged using a solar panel.as for size it is end to end the size of two cans of soda. as for width it is only a bit larger than those same cans of soda pop. it looks and feels well made. it is surprisingly light for the storage capacity. you can use more than one usb ‘out’ at a time to power things.the seller is very good to communicate with. i had an question on arrival that i couldn’t figure out. when you press the power button the first time just long enough to turn the power % display on? then you are only powering up the usb ports. to turn on the pronged electric outlet you need to press and hold the power button longer until the large light in front glows bright green. then the usb ports are disabled and the pronged outlet is turned on. both will not power on at the same time. when done with the unit make sure it is fully powered off or it will drain down all the way as i found out quickly. press the power button until there is nothing showing on the % display and the green light is off as well.as for charging time from zero to 100% it charges very quickly unlike older battery back ups i’ve had. while the manual states it takes 5.5 hours to charge using the brick it doesn’t even come close and that is great! for the size i was blown away that it only took about 25 minutes for a complete charge, again from zero.as for lasting power that all depends on the draw. so everyone’s end times will vary. related due to the internal safety switch if you go over the max stated 150W it won’t work. so do know what you are going to power and what it draws before ordering this.the only issues i had were very minor and specifically related to the instructions. the bit about going from ports out to standard electric outlet out and how to get the one on? and then the incorrect overly long stated charging times. wrong in a good way as it charges significantly faster than the manual states.all in all i am very happy with both the device and the quick response from the seller to my question. the size makes it about as easy to take with you if out and about as you can get. plus everything you’d ever need to go with this is included. i wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to family or friends!

Bought this specifically to power my CPAP for car camping. Although I haven’t yet taken it camping I did give it a test run overnight at home using my older PR REMstar Auto A-Flex System One CPAP (model 550P) with the humidifier removed and using the DC to DC 12 volt cord to maximize efficiency. My CPAP pressure was set to 8. After 7.5 hours the power station was only down to 89% which is pretty impressive! I was hoping for 2 to 3 nights of CPAP use so this has plenty of reserve power to use for charging my phone and will be nice to have around for power outages at home. The USB-C capability is a very nice added bonus since I only need one cable in my car to charge my phone or to charge the power station.

The media could not be loaded.  Having usb-c with power delivery (PD) charges my laptop and my phone. This was a big plus to me as usb-c packs down smaller and is cross compatible.I use this everyday in the field to power my laptop, phone, 12v portable screen and other accessories. It has enough power to recharge everything of mine about once. Any laptop adapter I have has worked, highest being 95W that I’ve tried. I keep this in my car when not in use and plug in into the cigarette lighter in the back.Overall very good value compared to what else is out there. Plus the shape has worked fine and is relatively compact.

  4. Amazon Customer

I live in hurricane-threatened South Florida. Over the last few years I’ve been amassing smaller solar/battery charging equipment. This is so far the best addition to my arsenal. Immediately after receiving the item yesterday, I set it to charge, it arrived 77% charged. When it was 100%, I went ahead and connected an Amazon-purchased Osolar USB 5-inch fan. This fan runs at 2.5W in low speed or 5W at high speed. I set at the high speed to run for 24 hours….Well it ran for 24 hours and 40 minutes and I still had 20% left! which is a little bit better than spec…..The math computes, I mean the usable battery as stated by the manufacturer is 150W and I ran this 80% down so the 120W consumed is pretty much equal to 24 hours x 5 watts. Why is this important? Well, in case of a power outage, I know I can trustfully connect a 100 W solar panel I own, set this fan to run for my mother, and have her charge and use at the same time in an intermittent fashion, her iphone and ipad, knowing that the she will be charging from solar while using these 2 for communication/information and also knowing she will have power for her fan overnight.I’ve even calculated that I could, in theory, use my (AC plugged in) Chromebook which consumes a max of 40W, then plug in my own iphone (2.5W charge for USB) and the USB fan into the laptop’s USB port and this will do the job during a power outage. The Nexpow can power a Dometic 60 Liter Electric Cooler overnight (12 hour period = 122.4 Watts) and during the day it can be fully charged by the Sun in less than 5 hours of full sunlight even while powering this cooler, the fan above and charging the iphone….What is not to like? You can use all of this and along with a 100 W solar panel on top of your car for extended camping.

Update: Great Warranty ServiceA few weeks back the DC output on my unit failed, partly my fault, and it no longer turns off. I was using the DC switch to turn ON & OFF the DC light that I was using, thus rendering the unit unserviceable for me. I sent NexPow a E-Mail requesting help and they responded the very next day with a request for my shipping address. Two weeks later a new unit arrived and tested 100%. That is what I call great service and NexPow does indeed honor the Warranty.I have also discovered that the NEXPOW YP-178W will not accept a charge if the display reads 100% even if the battery has only 78% Charge. Lithium Polymer batteries have a self discharge rate of 3% to 5% each month and after several months of nonuse the battery will be at a lower level of charge than is indicated on the % charge display. The % charge display on my portable battery packs only track charging and discharging and do not respond to the self discharge on the battery. So keep this in mind, if you are charging your NEXPOW YP-178W to 100% and letting it set on the shelf for a few months before needing it. After 4 months my NEXPOW YP-178W required a very short discharge to 99% before it would accept any charging and then it required 23 Watt Hours to recharge back to 100%. This amount of charging would indicate that the battery was only 88% charged but still indicated 100%. Other battery backs that I have tested operate the same way but some of the others will accept a charge when the battery needs it with the display indicating 100%.The NEXPOW YP-178W is very powerful for its size and is not that expensive. Get yours before the discounts disappear.Operation is as follows:DC & USB Power: >> Press Power Button — Battery % Charge Display turns on with DC & USB PowerAC Power: >>> Press Power Button until AC Power Light turns ON and DC & USB turns Off – AC is Modified Sine WaveLight: >>> Press Power Button two times VERY Rapidly to turn ON or Turn OFF Light can be either ON or OFF with either DC & USB power or AC PowerOFF: >>> Press Power Button & Turn OFF Battery % Charge DisplayCharging: >> If the Battery % Charge Display is not flashing it is not ChargingI purchased the NEXPOW 178Wh Portable Power Station on October 19, 2019 and it arrived a few days later VIA UPS.It has passed all of my tests. My home is located near the edge of my electric service area and it gets several power outages each year. My wife has some health issues and does not have good vision. Light in our bathroom has become an issue for us even in the daytime because it does not have any outside windows. The NEXPOW 178Wh Portable Power Station is my answer to this challenge. I purchased some 10 Watt LED lights a few years back and they need 10V – 30VDC to operate. The DC (12.0v to 16.8V) output on the NEXPOW is really great for powering these lights. I also have some USB LED lights that work well at night. The included 2 Watt LED light has 100-200 Lumens that has a broad coverage area that is very useful and it will run for a long time. The units small size is just right for my bedside table. If you need good lighting in a large room, a 15W 1600 Lum LED light in a table lamp does a fine job and will run for 4 hours. Recharging by AC, Solar & Car will take about 5-6 hours. No Auto shutoff after 6 hours with only usb test meter and multimeter connected to DC output was observed. No auto shutoff is beneficial because some of the USB devices draw very little power as they near full charge and would get turned off before full charge.I have also discovered that several pieces of my test equipment can be powered by the AC output of the NEXPOW and now they much more useful as I don’t need to look for a active AC plug when I want to use some of them. The small size is an advantage when you are adding it to your test set. The metal case makes it more durable than the plastic found on most of the other power boxes.Of course, it also powers all of the other small items and can be charged while powering your equipment. As I use it, I am discovering just how useful it has become.I purchase two DC jumper cables to use with the NEXPOW. The 1st one is a 5.5X2.1mm to Anderson Powerpole to connect my solar panel and other charging equipment. “https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072BXB2Y8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1″The 2nd one is a good quality 5.5X2.5mm DC output cable that I added an Anderson Powerpole connector to. “https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N21RV6G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1″These two cables let me use the NEXPOW YP-178W with the rest of my test equipment as well as some of my Ham Radio equipment.A Message sent to ‘Service@nexpow.com’ with some questions brought a next day positive response.

The media could not be loaded.  Great little power station, awesome for travel or emergency. There are limitations on wattage so do not expect to run a microwave, hot plate or heater from this.

  7. John Hogan

When it arrived it showed 70% charge so I immediately grabbed the hand mixer my wife was using to make a cake and tried it out. Not a good idea to steal the wife’s mixer but the power station ran it just fine on all speeds.I then USB charged it to 99%, as high as it would go. I plugged in my father-in-laws pellet stove which has a small blower in it and it ignites electrically. He runs it every morning for about 2 hours to take the chill off.To my surprise after 3 days or about 6 hours of usage running the stove and fan the power station was still at 22%. Haven’t tried recharging off a solar panel yet but I am more than happy with the purchase!

So I live in Northern California. Also home of the PG&E. They have been very cruel to us lately. So I decided to buy this power station hope it can charge our devices more since we use it a lot. I get tired using my battery pack especially I like to have it when I go to work (10+ hr shift). When it came to my house it was perfect timing cause the next day we were having another blackout. I charged it to 100 percent before the blackout happen (curse you pg&e). 2 days blackout has started. We used the power station multiple times and theirs 3 of us. Results it charged our devices to full battery quicker (3 phones and 2 tablets). For 2 days the power station percent was at 94% WOW!!!! I highly reccomnd this device especially you live in Northern California. I just had to order another one so me and my parents don’t fight it.

** please read entire review! **Don’t know why, but I’m crazy about having portable power that can serve multiple functions. I also have two of the omnicharge 20 plus batteries as well, the only difference between this unit and those is this does not offer wireless charging which is really not an issue anyway more of a convenience. This unit, to me, is better because it has many options for input and output, and a MASSIVE capacity!! This to me makes it one of the better options available at a fraction of the price of what you would pay for an omnicharge unit of any size!First, read the manual! Read the manual! Read the manual! The very first thing it tells you before you use this unit is to charge it to full capacity. I have 18650, 21700, and 26650 lithium ion cells for my hobbies, and when you keep, use, and store these types of batteries there are certain protocol that need to be observed to get the maximum life and performance out of these batteries. This unit uses lithium ion cells, lithium ion cells go through a break in process, whereas when you charge and discharge them the battery’s capacity will increase to its full potential over the first couple uses. If you intend to store lithium ion cells and not use them, you want to keep their charge at around 50% which is around 3.7 volts. If this is going to be a unit you use frequently, keep it fully charged. If you intend to store it for a year or more, I honestly would deplete it to around 60% before storing it.Second, the input and output features. This portable battery offers options for both input and output. I use a ts100 portable soldering iron frequently, and it runs off of approximately 19 volts DC. The AC power supply I can use with that soldering iron is compatible with this battery as well as it puts out 18 volts at 2 amps. Conversely, I can use this battery to power my soldering iron as it puts out up 120 volts through the AC outlet. The type C power delivery socket puts out up to 45 Watts which is also very useful for compatible devices.**UPDATE 1/11/20** an additional feature that I like about this unit is that the DC connectors are standard 5.5 by 2.1 connectors, which serve as an output AND an input for charging. Other portable batteries like rockpals and jackery have proprietary connectors for the DC charging of those units which is confusing and inconvenient because you have to have THEIR accessories to charge and use the unit. This one uses standard connectors so you can use anything that is compatible to charge this unit.

The media could not be loaded.  Very cool product. I like how small it is. It is a bit heavy, but understandably so. Mine came charged at 100% but they recommend charging it right away. Very impressed with all the adapters and the versatility of this. Happy with how it charges. Check video for more
